A kids bike for Christmas: the Stonepail Guide

Christmas is the perfect time to buy your child a new bike as a present. It's a gift that they'll love for years to come, and it's a great way to get them active and outdoors.

With so many different kids bikes on the market, it can be tough to know which one is right for your child. We specialise in Frog bikes as we believe they are industry leading when it comes to kids bikes. We’ve put together this guide to help you get the perfect kids bike for Christmas.

Getting the right size:

One of the most important things to consider when choosing a kids bike is the size. The bike should be big enough so that your child can ride it comfortably, but not so big that it's too difficult for them to control.

The best way to determine the right size bike for your child is to measure their inseam. To do this, have your child stand barefoot with their feet together. Then, measure the distance from the ground to the top of their inner thigh.

Once you have your child's inseam, you can use our frog bike size guide to determine the right size bike.

Please don't just buy online:

Another important thing to keep in mind is that bikes are not fully built before they are delivered. This means that you'll need to assemble the bike yourself once it arrives. We’ve had to save the day on many occasions when boxes have arrived and the right tools for the job are not to hand.

We can’t guarantee we have the time or availability to help build bikes that we have not sold, so if you're buying a bike for Christmas around Manchester, please let us have the opportunity to help bring joy and ensure a perfectly safe ride come that first ride.

Please always keep in mind if you're not comfortable assembling a bike yourself, we recommend that you purchase your bike from a local bike shop.

At Stonepail Cycles, we can build the bike for you so it's safe and ready to ride once gifted. We have experienced bike mechanics who will assemble your bike and make sure that it's tuned to perfection.

Don’t hang around:

Supply chains have been an interesting thing in a post pandemic landscape, the bike market isn’t adverse to feeling the effects on delays. Manufacturers are holding less stock in current times too. We recommend making the decision early on your child's bike for christmas. Lead times can be 3 to 4 weeks in some circumstances, depending on the colour, size and stock availability.

We don’t hold racks of bikes in store but are fortunate to have the flexibility to get kids Frog bikes and Kids Marin bikes delivered within short lead times, however the extra demand that comes with Christmas can mean stocks run out quicker.

Choosing the right kids bike for Christmas can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. Hopefully we’ve helped with a few tips and you can choose a bike that your child will love and ride for years to come.

If you have any questions about choosing the right kids bike for your child, please feel free to contact us. We're always happy to help!
